What kind of place is Drave Club?

D-Rave Club SGN — Drave or Drave Club to regulars, written D·RAVE on the logo — is an Urban Groove club at 21 Ham Nghi, Saigon Ward, right in the core of what used to be District 1. The whole place is built around one idea: no distance between you, the DJ and the crowd. There are no partitions and no sections hidden behind a wall; wherever you stand you're part of the party, and as the house likes to put it, you are the main character of the night.

Three things stay with people after a night here: a room steeped in deep red, a futuristic build with a 360-degree light ring wrapping the dance floor, and a genuinely mixed crowd — young Saigon, KOLs and KOCs, and international visitors staying downtown. Doors are open from 10 PM until 3 AM every night, so this is a stop for the second half of the evening rather than an early drink.

The room: a ring of light overhead, no walls in between

Look up and you'll see the signature straight away: a huge circle fixed to the ceiling, filled with strips of LED dots fanning out like the spokes of a wheel. The ring changes colour with the music — purple, red, orange, teal — and hits its brightest right on the drop. From around 11 PM, when the ring and the laser show run together, the room is at its loudest. Orange lasers sweep across from behind the DJ booth, rectangular orange LED panels on the walls throw warm light over the crowd and beams of pink and teal cut down from the corners of the ceiling.

The DJ booth is curved, outlined by a strip of light along its edge, with D·RAVE glowing across the front. Guests stand right up against the decks, hands and phones up on the beat; some nights an MC works the mic beside the DJ, other nights a guest performer leans out over the decks to fire up the floor, and on themed nights there are performances staged behind the decks. Curved-back sofas line the edges of the room for groups who want to sit, and with no partitions you still see the booth and the dance floor from every seat.

The house seating plan shows a rectangular room: the round DJ stage against one long side, a T-shaped block in the middle of the floor, curved sofa banks at both ends, rows of tables along the two long walls and a few stand-alone tables in the centre. The plan also marks the reception desk in one corner. Every table is numbered on the plan, so when you book ahead you can ask exactly where you'll be.

The music and the themed nights

The music runs hot all night with EDM, Tech House, Hip Hop and Viet Mix — sounds that suit the Urban Groove idea: solid rhythm, easy to dance to, building harder as the night goes on. Each week has three regular themed nights — KPOP Night, Bass Bomb and D-Rave All Star — and the FAQ page lists which night falls on which day. How a night at D-Rave unfolds

Doors open at 10 PM. The first hour is usually when groups arrive, settle in at their tables, order and get a feel for the room while it's still roomy and the music hasn't built yet. Around 11 PM the ceiling ring and the lasers come on together, the DJ pushes the tempo and the floor fills up — that's the time to be there if you want to see the room at its best. From then on it's one peak after another: the MC takes the mic, hands go up on every drop and birthday tables have their lit sign carried out onto the floor. Closing time is 3 AM, so if you're out as a group, plan your ride home in advance.

Where to be: right at the booth or on a sofa

Because the room is completely open, choosing a spot here is really about how you want to spend the night. Groups who come to dance usually want to be near the DJ booth, right under the ring, where the lasers and the sound hit hardest. Groups who want a corner to talk, celebrate a birthday or bring a big crowd are better off on the sofas along the walls — you still see the stage, but you have seats and a table of your own.

Booking is completely free. Address: 21 Ham Nghi, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City — the downtown District 1 area before the ward merger. Ham Nghi is a broad, easy-to-find boulevard, so “21 Ham Nghi” is all a driver needs. There's a parking point at the 21 Ham Nghi block, and the team will tell you exactly where when they confirm your booking, so you won't be circling around.

The house has named birthday combos — Best Friend Therapy for your best friend, The Spotlight for whoever wants to be the centre of attention, V.I.P Century for someone truly special — with a birthday setup, guest welcome and a mini party arranged on request.
